Cassettes

There is a Christian radio series called "The Way of Righteousness" that the mission pays to have aired each week on a national radio station. The series consists of 15 minute long, chronological Bible lessons that were specifically written for the Wolof people of West Africa. The missionaries also use the series to play for their friends who are interested. Who would think that an audio lesson could hold the attention of men, women and children alike?!?

T goes to two homes each weekend to play the tapes and now I'm going to a third compound. The widow that I now visit literally dances when she sees me coming up the path to her one room hut! We sit outside on the cement slab that serves as the family's couch/bench/table and after a short chat she asks me to play the tape. I have the English book version so I can follow along. Last week her youngest grand-daughter and a neighbor boy listened, too. This week it was her older grand-daughter, her brother and the same neighbor boy who listened to the lesson on Genesis 1:1.

T wants to loan a cassette player to the shut-in we visited on Friday so he can listen to this series, too. But we can't find a player in working order. On Saturday at the market God arranged it so that we'd notice a man fixing a cassette player behind the stand that sells radios. Pray that this will be the way we can get the series to this half-paralyzed and mute stroke victim and his family!
